Roof Reflectivity
Key to achieving a short payback period is our combination of Solyndra solar panels with Skycool's high reflectance roof coating. Skycool reflects more sunlight back onto the Solyndra panels, boosting power output. It also acts as an effective heat barrier. On its own, Skycool can reduce the heat gain from the roof by up to 95%. With the shading effect of the Solyndra panels above it, further reductions can be expected. This results in a substantial decrease in air conditioning load and costs.
Skycool also lowers temperatures in non air conditioned areas during summer. Our prices include 2 m2 of Skycool per Solyndra panel, but we recommend customers increase the area of application whilst the contractor is on-site. Air conditioning savings for a typical metal roof will vary according to location and electrical prices, but savings of $5 to $10 / m2/ annum are realistic, leading to a payback period of 3-4 years.
